The Downtown Outreach Addiction Partnership
is an active partnership between Calgary Alpha House Society and
CUPS Community Health Centre.
The team consists of three members – Adam
Melnyk (CUPS), Nicole Bealing (Alpha House) and Nadine Achtemichuk
(Alpha House). The hours of operation are from 8:30 AM –
4:30 PM, Monday – Friday. They work closely with Calgary
Police Services, Emergency Medical Services, the three hospitals
and all the major shelters downtown. The program was designed
to transport individuals with substance abuse issues in the downtown
core to the appropriate social agency.
The DOAP Team has their own vehicle and
tries to spend at least four hours a day driving around the community
checking on people who are outdoors. The Team will assist individuals
on the street improve their well being and safety by providing
instrumental needs such as referrals for housing and treatment,
connections to health care, condoms, clothing and food. Being
from two different agencies allows them to know a large amount
of the homeless population and they are always accessible by their
cell which is 998-7388 and are happy to have it given out to any
clients.
